Hi wonderful women!

Thank you Lisa for very useful information. I find it a bit strange (just like Britta) that even though the World Congress for FCEM will be in October in Cameroon, the so called "election" for the world president has already been decided or what? Sorry, maybe I'm a bit off here, but I thought a election was done during the World Congress not in other meetings during the year? In other words if some other woman would have liked to nominate herself to become the next world president for the next two years, she is too late?

Ulala... I thought when I read your information Delia, ... 20 years with the same president!! My personal opinion is that it's not healthy for any organization to have the same person in the same chair for such a long time. You talk about having a wall, I can understand that. However, remember the wall is only as tall as you imagine it to be, so ask yourself how tall do I want to have this wall in order for me to climb over it!

Julie, cheers to your "Power of women banding together for the good of humankind" - Our slogan at CW is"Let's get together and make a difference" reading this discussions make me really feel the power, and that together we ARE making a difference!

Hugs from spring time in Iceland.

FCEM's statutes are very old and unchanged but just because they are doesn't mean that they have to remain so. I am sure the original founders did not intend to put up so many barriers to progress when they created these statutes but in today's world and with the ever-growing size of our FCEM organization, we must have governing documents and strategies that not only keep pace but maintain relevance. The walls of yesterday are certainly a hindrance, but we must be careful to preserve what we have built over many decades or the entire structure will become unstable. With over fifty member countries we have a very wide-ranging set of experiences and technologies and thus it becomes increasingly harder to be something that everyone appreciates equally.

Yes, it is true that the World Committee (all the presidents of the member countries) meets twice annually to vote on the actions of FCEM. In their spring meeting they consider renewing the mandate of the president and that decision is affirmed in the Congress which occurs in the fall. Given the current budget constraints, someone who wishes to run for president must be prepared to be self-funded and she also must secure sufficient votes among the World Committee members to win election. This process alone can take considerable time and resources, so it requires a great commitment and a wide net of support. I do not stand in judgment of the system one way or the other, but simply say that it takes many hands to make change. It is not enough to wish for it or talk about it.

Dear Delia,

Each national country has it’s own statue.
Only one woman entrepreneurs club per country can become a member in FCEM.
To be a president for 20 years is definitely too long for an entrepreneur network and should not be accepted. So please check the Argentina statutes.

In America it is only one year. It is wonderful and makes a lot of candidates for the US to select a candidate for the next election of the world president
Being the president costs a lot of money and time. Either they spend there own money or is there a sponsor? The question is who pays the bills and why? That should at least be transparent to members.

regards
Dagmar

Hello wonderful CW women!

I'm very excited to hear from the women who attended FCEM in Cameroon this autumn.

How was the conference? What was the highlight? Where is FCEM heading for 2010?

For those of you out there who did attend; please share!

My best,

We discussed many of these issues at the NAWBO national conference in Chicago in June 2009. Several leaders from FCEM member associations attended (Yeah!), and we had great discussions.

One specific solution - I started a forum here on C-W to facilitate networking among FCEM members: http://www.connected-women.com/en/forums/view/484/fcem-affiliates-ampa-nawbo-members-all-others-welcome/. My goal with this forum is to network, generate referrals, and share resources. Please visit and connect!
